Throughout your University life, you will need to access and share information online and complete assessments using IT. Make sure you can confidently do this by working your way through our checklist of skills.
Working during your studies is an ideal way of making friends, building confidence, learning new skills and improving your finances. Personal development in the work place is essential for life after university so it’s best to start as soon as possible, not wait until you have graduated!
The Careers & Employability Service support students with their quest to secure work both during and after university. Our dedicated team will assist you in the application process; from applications, CVs and covering letters to interviews, assessment tests and selection days. You can also arrange a practice interview to go over some typical questions and how best to answer them.
Our online portal; Careersonline, is a good starting point. From here you can:
- Search for part-time, full-time, volunteering and placement vacancies
- Set email alerts to receive details about new vacancies (both local and national)
- Find out about on-campus or virtual careers events
- Submit your CV to be checked by an adviser
- Book an appointment to speak with one of our Employability Advisers (these are currently being offered via Zoom for your safety during the Covid-19 pandemic)

Please note: when you login for the first time, it is a good idea to edit your profile (select your profile from the top right hand icon) so that you can opt to receive regular job updates via email should you wish to do so. You can specify the type of job updates you wish to receive such as part-time, full-time, graduate or voluntary work and those which are in specific sectors. You can also opt to receive updates from TARGETconnect which advertises graduate vacancies across the UK.
Forthcoming developments with Careersonline include virtual careers fairs, employer information and links to work and career resources. These will be added to the portal over the coming months.

We are based at the Luton campus with a small team also operating from Bedford and are here to help current students or graduates from the University of Bedfordshire with their career planning and progression. To meet the team and establish what each of us does, please refer to our website.
What we do
The service offers one to one guidance, help with finding work or further study, advice on CVs, applications, interviews and assessment centres, and support with finding professional practice year (sandwich) placements. We also run a range of careers events, webinars and workshops, and co-ordinate the co-curricular employability units.
