Drop-in Covid-19 Vaccination Centre

Drop-in Covid-19 Vaccination Centre 18 SeptemberSep 2021 10:00 - 16:00University Square, Luton, United Kingdom

We are encouraging all of our staff and students to get vaccinated, as it remains the best way to protect yourself and others from Covid-19.

Getting a vaccination at one of our walk in sites is easy, you don’t need to be registered with a GP or have booked a prior appointment, all you need is your NHS number.

We know that some colleagues may feel nervous about getting vaccinated, so our sites have vaccine ‘reassurers’ on hand to provide support and advice to anyone receiving their vaccine. Water and biscuits will also be on hand for anyone that may be feeling unwell after their vaccination.

If you would prefer to book an appointment you can do that to, but it isn’t required. To book a vaccine appointment you can use the University's booking service.

Location: Ground floor at the Campus Centre – in the space near to Careers and Innovations & Enterprise.

Each vaccination station will have three tables set out with three chairs, and approximately 30 chairs to provide a ‘waiting area’. Once you have received your vaccine you may be asked to wait for 15 minutes before leaving, so that medical staff can monitor any potential side effects.

What to expect at the vaccination centre

Upon arrival you will be asked to wait in a socially distanced line until your details can be checked, make sure to have your NHS number handy to help smooth the process.

Upon getting to the front of the line you will be asked for your NHS number, as well as if it is your first or second vaccination appointment. Once you have provided the necessary details you able to get your vaccine.

You will then be called over by one of the medical professionals on hand, who will ask you a few simple questions about your medical history e.g. if you have any allergies, etc. This is a good time to mention anything that you feel may be medically relevant to your vaccination or to ask about any questions you may have.

After this point you will get your vaccine! You’ll feel a small scratch, or possibly nothing at all, then after a second the vaccination will be finished.

You will then be asked to sit in a waiting area for around 15 minutes just so that the medical staff on hand can keep ensure that you aren’t suffering from any side effects. Side effects are rare, and most side effects are immediately noticeable, all medical staff at the centre will be fully trained to deal with any issue that happens.

After you’ve finished waiting, you can get up and leave, make sure you don’t forget to grab a biscuit on the way out!
