Student Money Advice

Published by University of Bedfordshire

When it comes to issues surrounding money, student finance, additional funding, or just general advice on a range of financial issues, the Student Money Advice team should be your first port of call. Below is a summary of what we do and how we can help:

Scholarships and Bursaries

Scholarships and bursaries are available to Home students.

‘The Bursary’ and the ‘Merit Scholarship’, both of which are paid to you automatically in two or three  instalments provided you meet the eligibility criteria – there’s no need to apply.

The Bursary is worth £500 per year and for those students who have demonstrated a high level of academic achievement by scoring 112 UCAS points or more, will receive the Merit Scholarship worth £800 per year

Our range of scholarships and bursaries also includes the Foundation Year Bursary, Level 5 Bursary, Sports Scholarships and a Care Leavers Bursary. Further information on all of our scholarships and bursaries can be found at

Access to Learning Fund

The Access to Learning Fund provides extra money to students to help them stay on their course and in higher education and can offer help to students in a multitude of situations: you’re on low income or suffering financial hardship; you’re experiencing an unexpected financial crisis, or even if you’re simply struggling to pay to get to and from placement or pay for equipment as part of your course – and the list goes on. Better yet, any awards we make are grants, not loans, so you don’t have to pay the money back.

If you’re unsure whether you can receive help through the Access to Learning Fund, get in touch and we can point you in the right direction.

Money management & budgeting advice

Starting university will be the first time many new students are fully in control of their finances. There’s much to consider and many pit falls to navigate. We can offer advice on budgeting and making your money go further, as well as additional funding that might be available or where to turn if debts are getting in the way of what you want to achieve.

Student Finance England funding advice

Applying for tuition fee loans, maintenance loans and grants through Student Finance England is designed to be simple and straightforward – until it isn’t. We’re on hand to offer guidance when you hit a roadblock with your application or aren’t sure you’re receiving all the funding you’re entitled to.

Face to face or telephone appointments

We have advisers available at our Luton and Bedford campuses for confidential face-to-face appointments. For those unable to get to campus we also offer telephone appointments. To arrange an appointment contact us at or call the Student Information Desk on 0300 300 0042.
